The Kindness of Strangers

How One Kind Stranger Saved a Lost Package

The holiday season is always a whirlwind—orders pouring in, shipments to prepare, and family obligations stacking up. It’s a time when the pressure is on to get everything done on time, whether it’s making sure your own holiday preparations are in order or keeping customers happy with timely deliveries.

Yesterday, I was navigating the hustle and bustle of it all, trying to balance the demands of shipping orders and the responsibilities of my own family. In the process of running to UPS to drop off a batch of orders I accidentally left the trunk of my car open while I rushed to unload the packages, ignoring the beeping warning until I got to the stop sign 🙂

Where did the package go?

At the stop sign, I quickly got out to close the trunk and of course all the packages had shifted. As I dropped off the packages, I counted to make sure they were all there…I do this all the time whether there are 3 or 25! Counted three times and confirmed that there was one missing! I immediately backtracked along the route, retracing my steps as best as I could, hoping to find it somewhere along the road. But, no luck. It was as if the package had vanished into thin air. I felt the weight of the mistake—not just for the customer waiting for their gift, but because I knew how much this order meant to them, and how tight the holiday deadlines were.

I had almost resigned myself to the fact that the package was lost for good, and was preparing to send a new one today in time for Christmas, when I decided to check the tracking information. And then, something amazing happened. The tracking update showed the package had made it to UPS, as if by magic. The package was on its way, after all.

Kindness Matters…

I was absolutely overjoyed, but what really struck me was this: someone had found the package after it had fallen out of my trunk and, rather than keeping it or ignoring it, had taken the time and effort to drop it off at a UPS location. Someone had gone out of their way to make sure the package was returned to the system, ensuring it would reach its destination on time for the holidays.

In a world where we often hear about the stresses and strains of daily life, it’s easy to forget that there are still good, kind people out there. People who, in the midst of their own busy lives, take the time to do something selfless, just because it’s the right thing to do. I don’t know who this kind stranger is, but I am so grateful for them. It’s a simple act of kindness, but it restored my faith in humanity just when I needed it the most.

Happy Holidays to All!

I wish I could thank them in person—tell them how much their gesture meant to me, especially during such a hectic and stressful time. The holiday season can sometimes feel overwhelming, but moments like these remind me that, amidst the chaos and the rush, there are still countless people out there who go out of their way to make life a little brighter for someone else.

So, to whoever you are—thank you. You made my day, and probably someone else’s, too. Your kindness did more than just save a package—it reminded me that even in the busiest, most stressful times, there is goodness and generosity all around us.

As we navigate the holiday season, let’s all remember to be kind—to our customers, to our families, and even to strangers we may never meet. Because you never know, a small act of kindness might just be the thing that turns someone’s day around.
